5 Ideas for #Valentine’s #Day Gifts in Small Boxes

Monday, February 7th, 2011

It’s the season of romance, flowers, chocolate, hearts, jewelry and those 3 little words that touch us in just the right spot. It’s Valentine’s Day next Monday…mark it on your calendars, set your smart phone alarm, and don’t procrastinate any longer!

If you didn’t send out your annual crafty Christmas cards last year, Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to send out little gift boxes of love and appreciation to your betrothed, family and distant friends. When it is the thought that counts, remember to wrap it in small gift boxes!

Gift Boxes are the perfect size for sending….

1. Candy – either homemade hard tack, chocolate hearts and cupids, or even store bought sweets.

2. Cookies – know of someone away at college or in the military? Gift boxes of homemade cookies will light up their faces and fill those homesick tummies too!

3. Jewelry – always a tender sentiment to send to your favorite sweetheart whether it’s your girlfriend, wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, favorite cousin or niece. Jewelry doesn’t have to be new either. Remember your grandmother’s jewelry box of treasures you’ve been saving? Select a special piece with a loving reminder of days past. Also, antique thrift stores and general thrift stores are great for picking up ornate and unusual jewelry; give it a little polish and a love note, then you’re good as gold.

4. Tech gadgets – for the man in your life: boyfriend, husband, son, grandfather, uncle, nephew or cousin. Guys like gadgets, it goes without saying! iPods, cell phones, multipurpose tools and anything for the garage or his favorite hot rod, even if it’s not running, are all great gifts for your man.

5. Love notes – even if you feel your belt is tight, you can still create something that is always priceless – notes or coupons for your beloved. They don’t have to be store bought either. 3 x 5 note cards or business sized cards are the right sized for expressing all the ways you appreciate your loved ones. Write 1 missive per card or a special coupon for a back massage, walking the dog, cooking dinner or taking the kids out for the day. Your special someone will really know how much you love them. Fill a small gift box with red shredded paper or tissue paper, then place your love notes or coupons inside. Attach a heart sticker or draw one yourself with a red marker and set it by the front door, on their bed or even in the bathroom where your loved one will see it right away.

And remember to send out those Valentine’s Day cards too…something so small means the world to those special people in your life so far (and near) away!

How to Gift Wrap a Present Like a Pro

Monday, November 15th, 2010

Giving someone a neatly and creatively wrapped present makes it look more carefully chosen. Don’t know how to gift wrap a present? The key is patience. Follow these steps from WikiHow.com and you’ll be gift wrapping like a pro in no time.

1. First remove all price tags. It’s very frustrating to invest time into carefully wrapping a present only to realize you left the price tag on! If you can’t remove the price sticker, black it out with a black pen. Remember it’s the thought the counts, not the price when it comes to gift giving.

2. Put the item in a gift box. If the gift isn’t already box-shaped, putting it in a gift box will make it much easier to wrap.

3. Unroll holiday gift wrapping paper of your choice onto a hard sturdy surface. Put the gift on the wrapping paper to determine how much paper you’ll need. Make sure there’s enough gift wrap to go around the box once and the width leaves extra on the side.

4. Mark your cut lines if cutting in a straight line is difficult for you. Use a ruler or another straight edge to do this. Then place your gift upside-down in the middle of the paper.

5. Fold the paper around the gift. One the horizontal side of the paper, take one side and fold it around the bottom of your gift. Then take the other side and fold it over too. Take the longer side and fold it under so that you have a smooth crease instead of jagged cutting. Put it on the top of the other end and pull it tight. Then tape it together.

6. Fold the ends of your box. On one end of your package, fold the corners in to create a triangle. Then fold the straight end over and pull it to the top of your box. Tape. Then do the same for the other side.

7. Add ribbon and a bow. Measure your ribbon so you’re sure it’s long enough to go around the gift. Put the ribbon on the top of the gift and center it. Wrap it to the bottom, cross the two ends past each other and pull it tight. Turn the gift 90 degrees and lift the ribbon up the two other sides. Then pass the two ends under the middle of the ribbon and tie or stick on a bow. Pull the sides of the ribbon and curl it using your scissors.

8. Add a card or a “To: & From” sticker. Fill out the card or sticker and attach to your gift.

You just wrapped your first gift! For more information and photos of each step, visit WikiHow.com.

Offering Gift Wrap Services This Holiday Season? Why You Should Stock Up on the Essentials Now

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

Find Christmas gift wrap like this at PackagingSupplies.com.

If you are one of the many retail stores or malls offering gift wrap services this holiday season, it’s time to stock up on the essentials now. Here’s why you need to begin thinking about your gift wrap plans now and start ordering ASAP!

1. Many people start their shopping early and are done by Thanksgiving. These people expect to have gift wrap services readily available now. People are stressed around the holiday season and can be extra irritable. It would be a bad idea to upset customers during this crucial time because they could bad mouth you to others and as a result you could lose valued business.

2. You don’t want to settle for what you can get because all the good gift wrap has been bought out. If you’re charging people to gift wrap their items, you need to make sure you have a great selection of wrap to choose from. Otherwise, no one will want your service. Packaging Supplies has 92 different designs of Christmas gift wrap, several designs of Hanukkah gift wrap as well as a variety of neutral designs (and more are being added every week). Make sure you order now before the designs you want are sold out.

3. Stocking up now means you won’t run out later. Think about how much wrapping paper you used last year. Did you run out of paper before Christmas? Sometimes people leave their shopping until last minute and they still expect to have gift wrap services readily available; offer free gift wrap just before Christmas as an added incentive. Did you have too much gift wrap? Calculate how much you need, then order as soon as possible. Remember that shipping time may take up to 10 days, so you shouldn’t procrastinate or Black Friday will be here before you know it and you’ll have customers complaining about the lack of gift wrap.

If you’re offering a full gift wrap service, remember that you’ll also need to think about stocking up on bows, colored tissue paper, gift boxes and ribbon, all of which can be found at PackagingSupplies.com.
