6 Easy Steps to Create Your Own Jewelry Box

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

You have an eye for fashion, you love accessorizing, and you have tons of jewelry to showcase your bright personality. What better way to keep your items safe than by storing them in unique jewelry boxes?

Really show your knack for fashion by creating your own jewelry box at home. Here’s six simple steps to follow.

1. How much jewelry do you have? Choosing a desired size for your jewelry box depends on the number of pieces you have to store. If you want a smaller jewelry box, you can opt for one that is made out of cardboard, or fiberboard. It’s best to use metal, or wood for larger jewelry boxes to make sure they are durable and sturdy.

2. Find a box! Sounds obvious, right? Look around at home and in the garage to see if you come across any shoe, or gift  boxes, cookie, or popcorn tins, etc. If all else fails, pick one up at a local craft store.

3. Once you have your box, you need to then glue felt fabric to the inner surface. Choose your favorite color, or design. Glue small mirrors on the inside if you want. Decorate them with craft diamonds and jewels.

4. Once the fabric is secured, insert pre-made jewelry compartments, trays. You can choose the type you like and how many depending on the amount of jewelry.

5. Now, it’s on to the outside of the box. Choose whatever color you like to paint it, or glue colored craft paper, or even newsprint paper for an unique twist.

6. Now it’s decorating time! Consider the room that the jewelry box will be stored in. Maybe just a plain color outside works best. If it’s for a child, glue stickers of their favorite cartoon, or superheroes!

There you go. You now have your very one, unique jewelry box. It’s a simple gift to give a loved one, or keep for yourself.

Colored, Metallic Shred Paper: Perfect Touch for Wedding Gift Boxes

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

When attending a wedding, most people just give the happy couple a card filled with money to help cover the wedding costs – typical and practical.

If you want to go a different route, don’t underestimate the joy of the bride and groom receiving something that they can get pleasure in opening. Just like we want to tear open an envelope for the great reveal of the invitation, we all love unwrapping gifts. Giving wedding baskets has been gaining popularity. The gift box or basket conveys your feelings and affection towards the bride and the groom better than money in a card.

Most of the time, no one really cares what the gift is – they just want the joy of opening it and having the surprise of what it is. Inexpensive yet thoughtful, a gift basket or bag needs color, sugar and softness.

Metallic shred, mixed color blends of crinkle and fine cut paper shred, or cellophane shred are perfect for stuffing and enhancing the appearance of your wedding gift basket or bag.

Wrap champagne, hand-dipped truffles, chocolate lace bars, champagne gummy sticks or chocolate wafer rolls in colored tissue paper and place in paper gift bags. For added sparkle, fill with silver, or chocolate crinkled shreds for the bride and groom.

Gift baskets bring the best elements of gift giving together: color, variety, smell and surprise. Be creative and put your own personal twist on your basket.

Quickly and easily add a little character to your gift basket with color shredded paper.

5 Ideas for #Valentine’s #Day Gifts in Small Boxes

Monday, February 7th, 2011

It’s the season of romance, flowers, chocolate, hearts, jewelry and those 3 little words that touch us in just the right spot. It’s Valentine’s Day next Monday…mark it on your calendars, set your smart phone alarm, and don’t procrastinate any longer!

If you didn’t send out your annual crafty Christmas cards last year, Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to send out little gift boxes of love and appreciation to your betrothed, family and distant friends. When it is the thought that counts, remember to wrap it in small gift boxes!

Gift Boxes are the perfect size for sending….

1. Candy – either homemade hard tack, chocolate hearts and cupids, or even store bought sweets.

2. Cookies – know of someone away at college or in the military? Gift boxes of homemade cookies will light up their faces and fill those homesick tummies too!

3. Jewelry – always a tender sentiment to send to your favorite sweetheart whether it’s your girlfriend, wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, favorite cousin or niece. Jewelry doesn’t have to be new either. Remember your grandmother’s jewelry box of treasures you’ve been saving? Select a special piece with a loving reminder of days past. Also, antique thrift stores and general thrift stores are great for picking up ornate and unusual jewelry; give it a little polish and a love note, then you’re good as gold.

4. Tech gadgets – for the man in your life: boyfriend, husband, son, grandfather, uncle, nephew or cousin. Guys like gadgets, it goes without saying! iPods, cell phones, multipurpose tools and anything for the garage or his favorite hot rod, even if it’s not running, are all great gifts for your man.

5. Love notes – even if you feel your belt is tight, you can still create something that is always priceless – notes or coupons for your beloved. They don’t have to be store bought either. 3 x 5 note cards or business sized cards are the right sized for expressing all the ways you appreciate your loved ones. Write 1 missive per card or a special coupon for a back massage, walking the dog, cooking dinner or taking the kids out for the day. Your special someone will really know how much you love them. Fill a small gift box with red shredded paper or tissue paper, then place your love notes or coupons inside. Attach a heart sticker or draw one yourself with a red marker and set it by the front door, on their bed or even in the bathroom where your loved one will see it right away.

And remember to send out those Valentine’s Day cards too…something so small means the world to those special people in your life so far (and near) away!
