Protect Your Business Image with Eco Friendly Packaging and Shipping Supplies

Monday, December 12th, 2011

So lately we are thinking about ways that other businesses using environmentally-safe shipping supplies can help develop a reputation as a “green” or, at least, conscientious business.  With the surge in the “Green” movement, many people are voting with their dollars for businesses that care about the environment.  When a customer receives your product in eco-friendly packaging, they’ll feel good about ordering from you again in the future.

Sustainable packaging is either itself recyclable or made from a large percentage of recycled materials, and is used for a wide range of consumer products.  It comes in many forms such as paper products made from pre- and post-consumer waste, and plastic substitute materials.  Paper-based materials made from high content post consumer waste (PCW) are less expensive, and more widely available due to technological advances in recycling and reprocessing.  Naturally, the more recycled materials used in your packaging the less trees were harmed to produce it.

Perhaps the biggest challenge for packaging manufacturers is material reduction.  It should come as no surprise that the more material volume used to make packaging supplies, the less environmentally friendly they will be.  The exception is in supplies made from as much recycled material as possible.  As time progresses and the green movement continues to build momentum, more advances to our shipping supply technology will undoubtedly offer us even greater options.

Shipping a Turkey?! No Problem!

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

The holiday season brings families closer together, and home-cooking becomes the main theme for many households. The traveling and shipping industries are almost overloaded during the winter months, as people and packages must get to their destinations on-time. If you’re planning on shipping any food this holiday season, you need to make sure that you take the proper precautions before slapping on the final label and handing your treats over to a mailing service.

Large food items, such as whole turkeys and hams, require proper wrapping before shipping. Even if you plan on mailing your food overnight for quick delivery, it’s best to preserve meats, fruits, vegetables and other perishable items as best as you can. Wrap your whole turkey with poly-tubing wrap or a food-quality film, making sure all areas of the meat are covered. It may be necessary to cover the turkey twice with this protective film, as you can never be too careful with shipping meat.

Store any smaller perishable items in plastic food containers for air-tight sealing. Once each container has been closed with its food contents inside, wrap with packing tape for added security during shipment. The last thing you want is your recipient to open the box and find stuffing has completely covered the interior of your box!

Choose a mailing box that can hold all of your food items together, because breaking each item into separate packages can be costly. Place your turkey or other large food item carefully into the box before anything else. Place each of the small food containers around the outside, then fill the remaining empty space of your shipping box with packing peanuts. Seal your packaged box once you are sure that everything has been included. Write “Fragile” on the outside of the box and you’re ready to ship a nice family meal!

Colored, Metallic Shred Paper: Perfect Touch for Wedding Gift Boxes

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

When attending a wedding, most people just give the happy couple a card filled with money to help cover the wedding costs – typical and practical.

If you want to go a different route, don’t underestimate the joy of the bride and groom receiving something that they can get pleasure in opening. Just like we want to tear open an envelope for the great reveal of the invitation, we all love unwrapping gifts. Giving wedding baskets has been gaining popularity. The gift box or basket conveys your feelings and affection towards the bride and the groom better than money in a card.

Most of the time, no one really cares what the gift is – they just want the joy of opening it and having the surprise of what it is. Inexpensive yet thoughtful, a gift basket or bag needs color, sugar and softness.

Metallic shred, mixed color blends of crinkle and fine cut paper shred, or cellophane shred are perfect for stuffing and enhancing the appearance of your wedding gift basket or bag.

Wrap champagne, hand-dipped truffles, chocolate lace bars, champagne gummy sticks or chocolate wafer rolls in colored tissue paper and place in paper gift bags. For added sparkle, fill with silver, or chocolate crinkled shreds for the bride and groom.

Gift baskets bring the best elements of gift giving together: color, variety, smell and surprise. Be creative and put your own personal twist on your basket.

Quickly and easily add a little character to your gift basket with color shredded paper.
