This robot Halloween costume is homemade from a cardboard box! Photo courtesy of FamilyCorner.com.

With Halloween coming up next month, you might be already thinking about costumes. If you don’t want to buy a pre-fabricated costume and aren’t particularly skilled in sewing, there are some fun and creative costumes you can make using cardboard boxes. Here are some great examples from FamilyCorner.com. For a list of supplies needed and instructions, check out their website.

Robot: Who doesn’t love robots? Using cardboard boxes, aluminum foil, duct tape and paint, you can create a robot costume of your own design.

Race Car: While red is the standard color for race cars, choose whatever color you want, with paper plates for wheels, and other cheap supplies.

Refrigerator: While this may not be the most exciting costume ever, it’s certainly unique! Other appliances that make good costumes: a stove, television, and giant microwave.

Present: A giant present is a simple, but fun, costume. Dress up a box with Christmas wrapping paper or other gift wrap of your choice.

Other ideas: Jack in the box, dice, a popcorn box, an X-ray machine and a Lego. For more ideas, check back next week!
